In the World: “Mariner 7” Launches

As the second part of a dual mission to Mars, Mariner 7 launches. Mariner 6 had launched a month earlier with largely the same objective: to photograph the surface and study the atmosphere of Mars to help plan future Mars missions. Mariner 6 had made its pass around the equatorial region of the planet, Mariner 7 would follow and fly over the southern hemisphere.
