In the World: Northeaster Buries Long Island in Snow

Long Island was barraged by an unexpected northeaster that swung up the East Coast and dumped up to 20 inches of snow across Nassau and Suffolk Counties. By nightfall the entire Long Island Railroad system was shut down. Although both counties on the Island declared snow emergencies, the accumulation in the town of Isllip, where Dowling is located, amounted to less than a foot.
