At Dowling: College Receives Charter from State Board of Regents

Friday, September 27, 1968

The New York State Board of Regents granted the College an independent charter with the authority to grant Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BS), Bachelor of Science in Education (BS in Ed), and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degrees. The charter also spelled out the first board of trustees:

An absolute charter is granted incorporating Robert W. Dowling, Perry B. Duryea, Jr., Cecil L. Hall, Norma Hearn, Muriel Horenstein, Livingston S. Jennings, Stephen Korin, Joseph A. Lettmann, William L. Maxson, Jr., Donald Miller, Israel Mowshowitz, Robert E. Reid, John B. Rettaliata, Gabrielle Ripp, Allyn P. Robinson, George G. Semerjian, Charles Taubman, Dimitrios Tsunis, and Jule R. von Sternberg and their associates and successors as an educational corporation under the corporate name of Dowling College, to be located at Oakdale, county of Suffolk, State of New York.
